Eumeryia

Without Accolade, Without Judgement, Without Reward

OOC Info and Guidelines

Welcome to the Eumeriya project! We're an RP community centered around the story of a Sharlayan medical aid agency, the Eumeriya Outreach Mission. The mission hosts regular clinic evenings in both Eorzea and Turali communities and aims to offer a space to tell stories about tending to communities across the star, and aims to offer a space for physicians, alchemists and scholars, gleaners and researchers. As an RP community, we have the following guidelines, though these are best summed up by two principles: Consent and Consideration. So, without further ado, here are our guidelines:

  1. Abide by the discord terms of service - period.

  2. This should go without saying, but discrimination, cruelty, harassment and the like will not be tolerated, and are grounds for immediate removal. We do not operate on a strike system, if you cause the community pain or heartburn, you will be removed.

  3. Consent is key, both in and out of character. If someone asks you to stop something, stop. Remember, if you're the only one having fun in an interaction, or if you're having fun at someone else's expense, that's called being a jackass, and you will be removed.

  4. Eumeriya is, primarily, a venue for medical RP, whether that is general checkups or crisis intervention. As such, please keep these PG-13 where possible, and prefer spoiling your suprirses to putting people in uncomforable situations. Consent is especially important in medical RP and medical RP events. We also will not tolerate IC abuse or discourtesy by characters that are attending physicians.

  5. Remember that Eumeriya is at it's core a positive thing. This is not the place for amoral Sharlayan medicine or experimentation. That's not our vibe.

  6. We're also pretty close to the ground in how we handle IC interactions, and we'd ask that you avoid WoL plotlines or storylines when interacting with Eumeriya. It's always better to check with your scene partners about your character before hand.

  7. Physicians are allowed to decline patients for both IC and OOC reasons. Comfort goes both ways in medical RP.

At the end of the day, respect each other and respect the setting.

The Medical Mission

Eumeriya. In the formal language attributed to Sharlayan's Sages, the name translates to 'wellbeing' and 'wholeness'. We provide healing and chirurgical aid to spoken affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, and who live without quality medical care. Care we offer without judgement, without accolade, and without reward. Sharlayan is a wellspring of knowledge, a wellspring of skill and resources, and we believe that should be put to healing wounds across the star.We are a Sharlayan-based, independently funded, branch of Physis Technon, and intend to bring our skill in chirurgical work, in community medicine, and in medical research, to bear on the ills of the world. Our staff include physicians and Sages, Studium researchers and members of the Guildship and Noumenon. While we believe Sharlayan has a duty to perform this work, we acknowledge that we are not always the proper people for it, and as such, we partner with local healers and chirurgeons and assist them in carrying out their work.

The Way Forward

  • Sosoume [Emergency Response]: Rapid and effective response to emergencies, resulting from either conflict or natural disaster, is at the core of our work. We intend on preserving as many lives as possible, and our ability to respond quickly, and with quality care and medicines matter when the need is great.

  • Koinotita [Community Medicine]: Responding to a crisis is rarely enough. We remain in spaces we respond in, by assigning traveling Sages and physicians to communities across the star. We do this for two reasons: First, we believe we cannot serve a community without understanding it, and second, it is not enough to treat a disease, we intend on working with the community to ensure the affliction returns less frequently, or not at all.

  • Caenotomy [Care and Innovation]: Improving our chirurgical and somanoutic arts is part and parcel of our mission. We strive to ensure how we care for people becomes more effective, and more efficient, both in our medical practice, and in our community support.

  • Ypiresia [Medicine, Logicstics, and Support]: Treatment alone is rarely sufficient, and beyond providing chirurgical support, Eumeriya stives to provide for both medical and physical needs for the communities we serve. This includes both the distribution of food and alchemical medicines and the development of medicines and somanoutic technae.

  • Synergies [Partnership]: We understand that we are rarely the best representatives for a community - good intentions and skill are poor substitutes for trust and familiarity. To see that both are present, we partner with local chirurgeons and healers and support their efforts with our own.

  • Ypeythynotita [Accountability]: The integrity of the Eumeriya Mission is up held by the conduct of each member, in each location, with full respect for the communities we serve. We do not tolerate deviation from our mission and principles, we do not tolerate abuse, we do not tolerate exploitation. We will not make the mistakes Physis made before us.

  • Parastos [Bearing Witness]: Our proximity to people in distress demands we raise awareness of that distress to improve the situation. We will not be silent in the face of cruelty. We eek to bring attention to extreme need and suffering, when access to lifesaving medical care is hindered, when our teams witness extreme acts of violence, when crises are neglected, or when the provision of aid is abused

How to Get Involved

Eumeriya is more than a medical mission, or rather, good medicine involves more than just physicians. If you're looking to get involved with the project, or want to use it as part of your story, here are a few ideas:

  • For Physicians, Sages, Medical Students: Eumeryia is often used as an internship opportunity or a way to gather practical experience. It tends to draw in new Sages in particular, but accepts healers of all stripes.

  • Artisans, Alchemists, Students: We need supplies, and we teach medicinal alchemy, along with community medicine

  • Gleaners: We need supplies and people who know how to aquire them, we need guides and folk familiar with places Eumeryia is deploying, the gleaner corps is crucial for this.

  • Noumenon: Places need chronicling, administrative records, and sometimes critical artifacts will need maintaining and preserving in the communities Eumeryia visits.

  • For characters in places Eumeryia sets up shop, we place a lot of value on local healers, physicians, artisans, and just folk from the space!

Clinic Event Guidelines

  1. Location: We're often in the overworld for these event nights, so make sure people coming to the clinic events understand that rp will happen in /em by default. We can move to /p for privacy concerns on an as needed basis. When considering location, make sure we have enough space for the two halves of the clinic events: Receiving and Medical Care

  2. Mood: We discourage the clinic events being used as general socials, and expect attendees to be there for the Eumeryia event rather than general open RP. The spaces we work in have ample facility for open RP and the clinic nights should not fill that need.

  3. Purpose: We are not an army field hospital, major trauma events need to be cleared with the event runners before the clinic with enough time (generally a day or two) for us to let participants know there will be more activity than usual so they know what to expect. The same goes for 'severe' cases, participants need to discuss major issues/trauma with the event runners before showing up. We also will prefer treating player characters regardless of the condition of NPCs. If we're busy, it'll be assumed the NPCs were managed properly so we can focus on folk who made time to come.

  4. Reservations: While Eumeryia treats all comers in character, as a free company, we're not required to do so out of character. If a participant causes disruption, or violates event guidelines, they will be removed and we are under no obligation to interact with them.

  5. Staffing: We should have at least two members to host a clinic event. While we can run with less, it should not be the norm and no one in the organization should feel like they're obligated to run a one-man show.

  6. Content: Respect the XIV terms of service for content in chat channels. Clinic RP must stay PG-13, and be mindful of trigger/content warnings as it is medical RP in an open location.

  7. Timeliness: Clinic nights run, at maximum, four hours. Try to keep treatment and interations as tight as the narrative will allow so that everyone feels involved.

  8. Rules: Abide by both provider and patient guidelines.

Patient Guidelines

  1. We expect patients not to abuse physicians. IC tensions are fine, but be mindful of crossing lines. If you make a provider uncomfortable they are not obligated to work with you.

  2. Begin with the end in mind. When engaging with Eumeryia staff have an idea of 1) what is wrong with your character, 2) what you want the resolution to be. Make sure the staff know this so they can respect what you want done. This goes doubly for clinic events, if you're bringing something complicated to one of our clinic events, PLEASE tell the staff in advance so we're prepared for it.

  3. Check with the staff to make sure the themes around your character's issues are not trigger/subject matter warnings for your provider. Please do this ahead of time, it's never ok to jump-scare someone.

  4. If you're going to engage with Eumeryia staff please respect the work they offer. If your OC is seeing someone for therapy, please respect the counselor's advice, if your oc has been told to rest after an injury, rest.

  5. Keep the limits of healing in the XIV space in mind: There are various schools of healing magic, such as white magic, and conjury. but all are methods of ‘healing’ and purification by redirecting aether to replenish life force and bolster the target’s natural healing capabilities. This means that magic will not work on targets whose lifeforce is depleted and cannot be replenished, or is suffering from a disease that will not heal naturally. Symptoms like these are treated by using alchemical concoctions, which are the equivalent of real-life medicines, and surgical treatments like sutures and amputation..

Provider Guidelines

  1. We expect that IC medical care aligns with the objectives and, well, vibe, of the Eumeryia project. That is: we expect that treatment works toward, or attempts to work toward a positive outcome for the patient. As we've said in the community rules, this is not a space for deliberate malpractice or 'morally grey' medical RP. That isn't to say treatment can fail, but if it does it must be with the patient's consent.

  2. We expect folk to, as best they can, keep commitments with IC patients. I know IRL happens, but make sure you stay in touch with the folk you're involved in so they know.

  3. Content wise, keep medical RP within the XIV guidelines while in public spaces. It almost goes without saying, but keep things PG-13 and fade to black on explicit gore and the like. We need to be mindful of people around us when we're practicing.

  4. With that in mind, please discuss trigger and subject matter warnings with your scene partners, whether co-physicians or patients. It's important to set boundaries ahead of time and it's better to overcommunicate at the expense of ruining drama than springing something on your scene partners.

  5. Begin with the end in mind. Work out with your patient what the goal of the RP interaction is. Not everyone wants conditions fixed, so be sure to ask whether or not your scene partners want you to solve the problem presented and make sure the way you chose to do so respects that.

  6. By the same token make sure you've talked with your patient about what you are comfortable working with. Physicians are allowed to refuse scenes and refuse patients.

  7. Keep the limits of healing in the XIV space in mind: “There are various schools of healing magic, such as white magic, and conjury. but all are methods of ‘healing’ and purification by redirecting aether to replenish life force and bolster the target’s natural healing capabilities. This means that magic will not work on targets whose lifeforce is depleted and cannot be replenished, or is suffering from a disease that will not heal naturally. Symptoms like these are treated by using alchemical concoctions, which are the equivalent of real-life medicines, and surgical treatments like sutures and amputation.”
